TTT - Books I Wish I Had Read As A Child

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly post hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” This is definitely something I can understand and want to participate in.

A new prompt is provided each week, and this week’s prompt is:

Books I wish I had read as a child.

Let me start by saying that I was a voracious reader even as a child, so I read a lot of books, but there were some that I wish I had read. I probably would have, except that they weren’t published back in the olden days when I was younger. Here’s my list:

  1. The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling — this series wasn’t even written when I was young, but I adored reading it in my 20s.

  2. The Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan — this series also wasn’t written when I was a kid, but I hear everyone gushing about it, and wish I could have read it back then.

  3. The Eragon series by Christopher Paolini — another series I’ve heard a lot of murmurs about, but that wasn’t around when I was a child. It’s been recommended to me, but it doesn’t appeal to me today the way it might have when I was younger.

  4. Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov — this book has been on my TBR for such a long time, but I haven’t gotten around to it. I would have liked to read this when I was in high school and in the habit of critically analyzing books the way high school teaches you to.

  5. Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes — I always loved Alice in Wonderland, but I think it would have been really interesting to young Leah to be able to read more about what made the Queen of Hearts become who she was.

  6. The Winternight series by Katherine Arden — I absolutely loved the entire series, and I know that I would have loved it as a kid too.

That’s all I can think of, so rather than drag this out, I’m making this into a Top Six Tuesday.

What are some books that you wish you had read as a child?
